Matthew Burk
Tue 02:03AM EST
Matthew is still there. And he's taking the time to do what he does most every day. Love of gaia filling his mind, breath of gaia filling his lungs. Little rituals.
Billy Bedlam
Tue 02:05AM EST
Coming out of the lodge, he just sits at the fire and closes his eyes...listening to Matthew's rituals
Matthew Burk
Tue 02:07AM EST
Nothing to be heard. Matthew simply beathes in deeply. Thirteen times (one for each tribe, perhaps?), and then relaxes. Totally. Still the wearyness about him, but some comfort gained.
"Who was it?"
Billy Bedlam
Tue 02:13AM EST
He stares not into the fire...but off into the darkness. 'an old friend of mine...my mentor's sister."
Matthew Burk
Tue 02:16AM EST
"Kin or fullblooded?"
Matthew leans forward, taking up the talens and offering them to Billy.
Billy Bedlam
Tue 02:18AM EST
Taking the talens, he slips them into the emptied pouch from before and replaces it on his belt. "She is Kin...she was going to be my mate once." reaching over, he grabs an old coffee pot filled with water and sets it on the fire then he drops the packet of herbs from earlierinto it
Matthew Burk
Tue 02:24AM EST
"Ahh..."
He is only 16. But he has some hint to the vagrancies of relationships. It may not have been a happy meeting.
"And now?"
Kennedy
Tue 02:28AM EST
Kennedy left the safety from the tree, climbing down carefully, and dropping some ways to the ground below. She looks around, garbed in all black, (tanktop, military issued bdu's, combat boots) a thick pale blond braid trailing down the center of her back, offset by the black clothing. She straightens up, wiry muscles stretching slowly, uncoiling from the tension of sitting up on a branch for long hours.
Santiago
Tue 02:29AM EST
"And now, evidently, Billy-rhya would rather not say." Smiling, the latin-blooded Fenrir comes to the fire from the dark, a handful of long twigs in his hand. Kicking up a log, he takes a seat, nodding to Billy who walks off to attend to other matters. Then to Matthew, "Evening, Wide-Eyes." He unbuttons his coat and takes a package of - marshmallows? - from an inner pocket. Tossing them to Matthew with a stick, "Campfire classics. Help yourself."
Matthew Burk
Tue 02:35AM EST
"Evening, Eyes-Like-Flint."
Ducking his head slightly, faint signs of wearyness about Matthew's face. He's done a lot in a day. But his face lights with a smile.
"Kennedy!"
Kennedy
Tue 02:40AM EST
A wild smile dances across her adolescent face. Eyes, like twin pools of obsidian, roll around the area until she finds the source of the exuberant call. Body moving, muscles groaning with slight stiffness, towards the campfire, walking around the tree. She looks between Santiago and Matthew. "Well well... ain't I a lucky girl tonight. Here's mah two favorite furries on the planet sitting the fire."
Santiago
Tue 02:46AM EST
A faint curl of a smile. Wordless, he tosses another stick at Kennedy. "Hi. Tell Matthew to hurry up and pass those marshmallows." He leans forward and prods the logs in the fire with the remaining bundle of sticks, rearranging the fire before he jams the sticks into the sandy ground of Billy's island when the tips start to smoulder.
Matthew Burk
Tue 02:47AM EST
"You feel free to start... not in the mood for sugar right now."
Tossing the marshmellows back over to Santiago, a warm, cheery smile is given to Kennedy.
"Grab a seat."
Santiago
Tue 02:49AM EST
He catches the bag of marshmallows onehanded, fumbling just a bit, and then tears it open with his teeth. Working a marshmallow out, he pokes it onto the end of his stick and puts it in the fire. The bag - "Heads up" - sails toward Kennedy.
Kennedy
Tue 02:52AM EST
A hand snaps up to catch the stick, staring at it for a moment, as she listens to them. Her head bobs in a quick nod, dropping down to a crouch. "Hey, boys... I was hanging around hunting possum and thought I--" the bag of marshmellows sails through the air, smacking her in the side of the head as the 'Heads up' assaults her ears. She reaches up to grab the bag, eyeballing Santiago, fumbles with a few marshmellows to poke onto her stick and throws the bag back at him. "Heads down.."
Matthew Burk
Tue 02:53AM EST
He can't help the little chuckle as the marshmellows make contact with Kennedy's head, but at least he tries to stifle it with a hand.
"Um... what were you thinking, Kenny?"
Santiago
Tue 02:58AM EST
Santiago grins, white teeth in a swarthy face, framed by a black goatee. "And you call yourself kin to the Get?" It's said in good humor, though, as he bats the bag out of the air and then reaches down to pick it up. He pulls his first marshmallow, nice and crisped, out of the fire and gets munching. "Would've brought graham crackers and chocolate too, but I haven't been grocery shopping for a while."
Kennedy
Tue 03:02AM EST
She chuckles, sticking her tongue out at Santiago, the stick thrusted out over the fire to charr her marshemellows to a black, crispy color. She pulls it back, when the tip of the stick sets on fire. "Oh, shit.." grumbling she jerks it back, blowing the small flame out. Sighing, she pulls off two sticky black marshmellows, stuffing them into her mouth to chew on. "It's a bit rubbery." she says with over a mouthful. "And I'm just as hardy as you.. I don't break that easily.. Got me some hollow bones..." She grins.
Matthew Burk
Tue 03:03AM EST
"She's sure a lot better at climbing, if nothing else."
A glance over to a particular tree, and Matthew breaks into chuckles.
Santiago
Tue 03:08AM EST
"They usually are," he observes, loading his stick with another marshmallow or two, "when you burn them that badly. Try to get them to a nice golden crunch." Bag goes flying back again.
Ten years older than both the others, Santiago felt a bit like he was back home in the White Sands Sept, back before he Changed, when he was tutor to a gaggle of kids. Some of those grew up to be kin; others Garou. Some of the Garou died before he ever even Firsted - too-young casualties to a too-brutal war in which all the odds were stacked against them.
A glance at the tree, measuring. Then, "Nah. She's good, but I'm better. Coming from the desert, you know." Grin. "Lots of trees there."
Kennedy
Tue 03:13AM EST
She sucks on the sticky residue from her fingers, tilting her head back to look up at the tree. "I'm sure you swim just as good as you climb, brah?" She chuckles, glancing over at Matthew. "What was I thinking... Oh.. I got a question for you guys, maybe you can answer it."
Matthew Burk
Tue 03:16AM EST
"I can always try, Kenny."
A wink. He likes calling her that because, well... he doesn't quite know. But he might have an incling.
Santiago
Tue 03:20AM EST
"Swim? God, no. I sink like a rock." - and he fishes his marshmallows out of the fire, extending the stick toward Kennedy. "Here, try that one. Second one's mine, though. And go ahead."
Kennedy
Tue 03:22AM EST
She sets her stick down, reaching out to pluck off the first one, stuffing it into her mouth to swallow it whole. Still hot it burns the roof of her mouth. She squeezes her eyes shut, as they water up. "oh..owowowow... hot!" She takes a few quick breathes. "Whooo... anyway. Have either of you heard of a drilling oil something.. calling itself Endron?"
Matthew Burk
Tue 03:23AM EST
"Endron... it's an oil drilling company. That's pretty much all I know, though."
A helpless shrug, and Matthew turns towards Santiago. He should know more than the young Wendigo.
Santiago
Tue 03:26AM EST
He eyes the girl with something like aghastness in his face when she stuffs the scalding marshmallow in whole. "Keep that up and we'll need one of Matthew's talens before we even leave," amused.
Then there's a change: an alertness washing over his form, charging the edges with electricity. "You know more than that, Matthew," a glance toward the young Theurge. "They're the ones trying to drill out here. Evicting us from the Coggie cabins, and all. And I've a feeling in my gut that they'll be the ones out at the camp we're going to check out, too." Turning back to Kennedy, "Why do you ask?"
Kennedy
Tue 03:29AM EST
Her back straightens up, perching more now as in her crouch. She grins wildly, feeling like she was actually doing her job now... the little messenger girl "Oh, well I heard a few of the garou in North Jersey talking about it. Mostly, a pack of Fenrir from what I can gather. Met like about four of them and a few kinfolk.. I heard the word Endron and as soon as I came up they stopped talking about it."
Matthew Burk
Tue 03:30AM EST
"I know more than that?"
Now his young face is creased with a frown. Did Santiago just... no, must be a slip of the tongue.
"No, I don't know anything else about them... and they're trying to drill out here?"
Yoninah
Tue 03:35AM EST
Steps, quick, light, easy, heard on the path, unerringly heading toward the fire of someone’s camp where voices are heard soft and the flickering of firelight can be seen. Head tilts, slightly, breath slides through lips and smile appears as pack is resituated on shoulder.
Outfit is deceptively simple from the toes up, black boots, black jeans, black t-shirt, black long trench-like coat covering it all, open and flapping around calves as she moves, flicker of color seen here or there along the lining if one is looking close enough. Hair is long and thick, falling mid-back in raven-black waves, curling a bit around the sharp features of her face. Eyes are so dark they are often said to be black as well, under thick lashes. Light, wirey, strong – obviously a gal who’s often on the move, leanly muscled rather then bulk and all of 5 foot tall.
Steps continue, closer, closer, closer still… straight toward that firelight with odd little gait… bouncing almost from foot to foot, resting easily on the balls of her feet rather then striking heel toe as most do… Dark eyes dart about, gathering impressions of the surroundings she’s landed in, as she finally nears a break in the trees…
Santiago
Tue 03:44AM EST
"More Get of Fenris in North Jersey, huh?" Mull. Munch marshmallow. Flicker of amusement, "What did you do, eat all their sausages?" He sticks another marshmallow on his stick and tosses the bag Kennedy's way before continuing the briefing. "Well, Corran-rhya seems to think they have some affiliation with the Wyrm. And certainly, kicking a bunch of garou and kin out so they can drill for oil in virgin pineland isn't doing anything to endear them to us--"
- break off, head snapping left as his black eyes land on the newcomer long before she breaks the trees. His eyes were desert-trained, sharpened by the endless dark expanses of the desert nights. Straightening up a little, he watches her for a moment, chewing his last marshmallow slowly - drawing a long, even breath out of the air.
Kennedy
Tue 03:49AM EST
Black eyes snap up suddenly at the sound of the noise. Her head lifts, attentive eyes turning in the same path of the Forseti's to follow his gaze. "No, I didn't eat all their sausage. Just borrowed some toiletries... but I paid them back for it."
Matthew Burk
Tue 03:50AM EST
"More Fenris?"
He seems a little annoyed at that, truly.
"Eyes-Like-Flint, do you know if anyone is claiming Kennedy?"
Kennedy
Tue 03:52AM EST
"Claiming me!?!" she blinks, shifting her weight as she moves up to stand. The bag of marshmellows flopped at her feet as she forgot to catch them. She picks them up, looking around, mostly back towards the new comer..
Santiago
Tue 03:55AM EST
...exhale. He waves Matthew to silence as the newcomer approaches. "Help you?" - friendly enough, though guarded, and the black eyes are sharp and watchful. A hint wary.
Yoninah
Tue 03:55AM EST
Conversation halts, breaks off, and get a bit louder as everyone turns her way. Always was fun to make a grand entrance, after all, and she hits the little clearing with voice first “Helloooooo there… room for another by the fire? I swear when they said may the road rise to meet you, they couldn’t have meant for as many miles as I’ve been traveling. What do you say guys?” A blink as Kennedy jumps, slender form actually jumping back a step, startled, but then moving forward once more as if it hadn’t happened at all.
Matthew Burk
Tue 03:56AM EST
A glance up to Kennedy, and Matthew stands as well. He's been told to be silent... but his eyes are on Kennedy. He does have something to say. Once this is done.
Santiago
Tue 04:10AM EST
A pause, so balanced that none of them would guess it to be indecision. "This fire isn't mine to tend. The man who owns it is sleeping at the moment." Glance at the other Wendigo. "Matthew? He's your cousin."
Yoninah
Tue 04:13AM EST
head tips slightly, a little nod, before dark eyes turn unblinkingly on ‘Mathew’ and watch for a reply, almost polite, shifting weight from left to right to left again, before pushing a strand of hair back from sharply lined cheek to curve behind ear. “I don’t bite.. really… most of the time anyway” voice drops to a whisper… “less ya ask nice…”
Matthew Burk
Tue 04:17AM EST
"Feel free to join us by the fire... a pleasure to meet you, miss...?"
An obvious request for a name in return. She has his already, after all.
Matthew Burk
Tue 04:18AM EST
Funny that it should be given to him to make the decision. For he seems to be the tied youngest there, only sixteen on a good day. And a young, innocent set to his native features that may make it seem more so.
Yoninah
Tue 04:23AM EST
A flash of a grin slashes across her lips and she nods. “Thanks. I appreciate it, for sure. These old bones are t i r e d. And the names Yoninah, It’s Hebrew, my mother had a love for odd little names. Means Little Dove, but that’s just a bunch of shit, as well, I’m obviously not Jewish, and look shit like a dove.” Pack slides from shoulder and she moves to an open spot by the fire, though she doesn’t sit, exactly, but instead crouches and rests on the balls of her feet, her pack tucked under her knees.
Kennedy
Tue 04:28AM EST
Kennedy stood there, staring at the newcomer. Attentive eyes, like two fathomless pools of obsidian, stare, unblinking, as well at Yoninah. Her head tilts suddenly at an odd angle, a wide, even wider smile spreading on her face. Small and wiry of a slight muscled frame. She was only 4 inches taller than five feet. Dressed very much in all black, (tanktop, bdus, combat boots) A series of tattoo exposed on her skin. Fenris glyph on her right shoulder, Helios glyph around her exposed navel, a tribal design wrapping around her lower back to her sides... Pale blond hair, (the only stark constrast from all the black) stands out in a single braid down her back.
"Can you name? I am the wanderer who never walks. Murder's Daughter, yet I am Thought and Memory in the eyes of a god.
Can you name me?
I feed with the eagle and the wolf, but I walk among men?
Can you name me?
For I can name you..."
Her words flow out in a riddle of sorts to Yoninah, watching the tell-tale signs of the constant movement in her actions. "Name's Kennedy."
Santiago
Tue 04:28AM EST
Santiago's mouth, which had been set into a straight line at the first sign of the stranger, curls slowly now as though something amused him privately. "No, you don't," he agrees, and then nods at Kennedy. "Pass her the marshmallows, will you? Here--" and he tosses one of the sticks at the new woman. To Matthew then, "Sure you don't want one?"
Conversation seems to resume again. "No one I know's taken a fancy to Kennedy yet, but you'd have to ask her yourself. Why?"
...they might note the utter lack of Garou terminology from his speech, now.
Kennedy
Tue 04:31AM EST
The marshmellows remembered as her head snaps up, a girlish giggle bubbles up in her throat. Seems as if the sugar rush was starting to kick in. She tosses the bag of marshmellows to Yoninah.
She tosses Santiago a side-glance, arching a dark brow at him for a moment.. "I'd like to why myself?"
Matthew Burk
Tue 04:32AM EST
"Because I don't want someone coming after me with an axe because I like spending time with her."
That's it for now... he doesn't want to have someone get the wrong idea and come after him with an axe. A shake of the head to the second offer of marshmellows.
"No.. thanks again. I'd actually better get off to rest."
Yoninah
Tue 04:35AM EST
The other woman talks and there’s a lingering smile as the stick is snatched from the air and eyes remain on the blond who rhymes her rhyme and talks her talk and never walks the walk and a brow arches slightly.. “can ya now…” murmured before eyes light up at the marshmallows and she goes about plopping one on the end of the stick, holding it out over the flames “thank’s much.. gotta agree the coming after ya with an ax would be bad… though of course my Uncle once had that problem but then again…well. We really aren’t supposed to talk about that anymore.. he gets a might testy…
Matthew Burk
Tue 04:41AM EST
With a nod to everyone left, Matthew gives Kennedy a smile and heads off to his tent, finding his bedding and curling up. Blissful sleep.
Kennedy
Tue 04:42AM EST
"Pffft... He's just paranoid. Nobody is gonna come after him with an axe I swear.." She rolls her eyes, flopping back down suddenly on the ground with a soft huff. Her eyes upon the other woman.
Santiago
Tue 04:46AM EST
That was a departure from the usual prattling. Santiago turns sharply at the words; one piece of the puzzle is already his, and now, another stream of clues.
Breathe in; breathe out.
"Goodnight, Matthew," watching him leave. He'll have to remember to talk to him about kin and claim. When the other is gone and he's left alone with the two (bird)women, twirling his stick lightly between his hands.
The subject broached lightly enough: "So which one of you is Huginn, and which is Muninn?"
Kennedy
Tue 04:51AM EST
"Actually, I'd be more of a relation to both Huginn and Muninn since my family tends to run the nordic route.." She smirks at his question. Black eyes sliding up to look at him, regarding curiously with an odd tilt of her head. "Though.. I'm more Muninn than Huginn.."
Yoninah
Tue 04:54AM EST
And then there were three. Matthew gets a wave of flaming marshmellow before lips purse and puffft the flame dies out (pity, it was pretty) and then continue to blow before fingers pluck the sticky treat free and plop it between lips, inhaling over the marshmellow to cool it farther before head tilts toward Santiago and brows wiggle, amused “Guess.” A mirroring tilt to head as gaze rests on Kennedy again, listening, intently.
Santiago
Tue 04:58AM EST
There's a slight curve to his lips, but his eyes are dark, unreadable, as they move between the two. He takes the time to eat another marshmallow before he lays the stick down. "Followers of Hrafn occasionally fraternize with ravenfolk, but Hrafn's packs don't live out here. What are two ravenwomen doing here, then?" A glance sliced at Kennedy: her and her damned 'food' symbols. "Is this your work?"
Kennedy
Tue 05:02AM EST
"No they don't.. But one of 'em's up in New York at the moment. And I'd likely not be here on this wonderful world if he wasn't doing his duty to Gaia and all." She chuckles, smiling brightly over to Yoninah. "I'm not sure.. Maybe... Possibly, couldn't tell ya without a toll."
Yoninah
Tue 05:04AM EST
She looks at him, head tilting as weight shifts slightly to the left, and another marshmallow is snagged and pierced with the stick, setting it aflame like the first in quick order. “It’s springtime… I’m just following the sun. Why? Do you not like Raven’s? You know it was once said that Crow’s foretold death and to see more then one, well….” fingers pluck treat free and pop it into mouth again. “ish w’ll known sommerefullashit” mumbled through white, of course, as fingers pluck the stick clean.
Santiago
Tue 05:12AM EST
"Like?" he repeats, and shrugs. "The elders say Fenris wolves," because Kennedy's big mouth would give that away soon enough even if the earlier bantering of garou terminology hadn't already, "and ravens have trafficked since the beginning of time. We'll continue to do just that, I suppose, until Ragnarok. But liking and trusting are two different things."
He doesn't know anything about Yoninah. He doesn't know anything about Kennedy either, in retrospect. One hand works slowly, dusting itself clean of tree-bark and marshmallow bits. He looks from one to the other, thinks, pauses, thinks again.
"Does Matthew know?" - this to Kennedy, though he heartily suspected not.
Kennedy
Tue 05:20AM EST
Her head straightens, "If he does.. then he doesn't seem to care. He's more concerned for a fenrir beating his arse..." her shoulders roll in a soft shrug. "blood is blood."
Yoninah
Tue 05:22AM EST
Weight shifts back this time, resting more firmly on flat feet, head tilting oddly at Kennedy and Santiago, though naturally things like that would be told, and why wouldn’t they be? It’s not like it’s any huge secret (oh but what if there was a huge secret… gaze narrows slightly and studies Santiago as if he’s the most interesting thing seen for a while –or if he has a booger hanging from his nose, hard to tell sometimes.) or anything. Kennedy’s comment gets a chuckle, amused, and gaze flickers from Santiago back to Kennedy and back again.
Santiago
Tue 05:34AM EST
"His concern isn't out of the blue," a wry twist of his mouth. "Blood is blood. A formal claim on a kin to the tribe is a challenge to the tribe, and I'll be the one to answer it. He wants you, he'll have to earn you fairly or not at all." Another shrug, and then he cocks a black eyebrow at Kennedy. "I'll make sure he knows, but you remember that as well."
Sliding a glance at the staring Yoninah, he suppresses the urge to brush his nose. Growing serious again, then, "As for the two of you. I'll be watching you. Keep your noses clean and your beaks shut, and I won't have reason to rat you out. Make trouble and I'll be the first to put a bullet in your feathered rears. I know your names. I can find you if I have reason to. Understand?"
Kennedy
Tue 05:40AM EST
"I am on equal grounds with you, Santiago... " A soft sigh of exasperation ebbs from her throat, pushing herself up to stand. A slight chuckle slowly bubbling up. "Isn't that like the kettle calling the pot black. We don't make trouble..." black eyes settling on him now, as if she could bore them through the Fenrir.. The Eyes of Gaia.. A dead pan expression slides along her face. She will go where the wind takes her and where the sun rises and sets. She had a reason for being here..
Yoninah
Tue 05:44AM EST
She can’t help but laugh and tip her head slightly. “Ah, you’re a charmer, aren’t you? The gaze is still intent, pointedly looking at his nose, then back up again, before fingers slide under her own, shoulders shrugging, as lithe form rocks back to the balls of feet, setting the stick aside again, gaze sliding toward Kennedy once more with a bit of a roll to her eyes. “Equal ground and all. See –that’s the thing about you fuzzbutts. You forget we ain’t just your kin. We’ve walked hand in hand since the beginning of time, you said so yourself. I ain’t here to make trouble, just following the sun. Which, of course, has been down for a right long time by now” There’s a lean toward them, and tilt of head, jut of chin… “time for little girls like me to be counting crows. Thanks.” the lean turns to roll turns to stand as pack is swung back over shoulder.
Santiago
Tue 05:48AM EST
A hint of a chuckle as he, too, slides to his feet. The stick is dragged up from the ground in the same flawless motion, tossed to the fire to devour. "Just so long as we're clear with each other," he replies to one or both, and then holds his hand out to Kennedy for the marshmallows. "Heading out myself. I better not wake up to a roof full of ravens, ok?
"Goodnight, Yoninah."
Yoninah
Tue 05:59AM EST
A toss of dark hair over shoulder and there’s a nod. “Clear as can be. And kick my friends off your roof. Got it. Night Santiago…” grinned… because she’s kidding….right? A soft hum as she turns then with a wave to Kennedy as well, chanting with each of those light, almost tiptoe steps.. "One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret, never to be told."
Santiago
Tue 06:04AM EST
Somewhere between bemused and bewildered, he watches the one go. Catching the bag of marshmallows, then, he puts them away and kicks sand over the fire. When it's out he heads off as well, tossing a goodnight over his shoulder to the remaining ravengirl.
